Obituaries

MAX ALLEN, a minor league righthander who pitched in the Devil Rays organization from 2002-06, died Aug. 6 in Rincon, Ga. He was 39.

WILLIAM “WILLIE” BARTOLOVICH, a minor leaguer who pitched in the Athletics organization in 1953 and ’56, died Aug. 13 in Avon, Ohio. He was 85.

WILBERT “WIL” BAUMKER, a first baseman who played in the Midwest and Florida State leagues for the Cubs and Cardinals organizations in 1958 and ’59, died Aug. 14 in San Carlos, Calif. He was 80.

WAYNE BENSTEAD, a minor leaguer who played in the Kansas-Oklahoma-Missouri League for the Cubs organization in 1952, died Aug. 10 in Delavan, Wis. He was 86.

MICHAEL “MIKE” BUIST, a righthander who pitched in the Mets and Cardinals organizations from 1964-67, died Aug. 25 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He was 72.

a righthander who pitched for the Red Sox, Senators, Angels and Yankees in 1954 and from 1956-62, died Aug. 24 in Visalia, Calif. He was 87.
