IN THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

As the senior official photographer at the Australian Government Photographic Service (AUSPIC), a job he has held for more than 25 years, David Foote’s role sees him working in all genres of photography, supporting everyone from Ministers to Parliamentary Services–and covering just about everything from official and environmental portraits to Question Time.

No two days are the same either. One day could be shooting food photography for the menus of dining rooms, the next photographing renovations and new building work, or the gardens as they change with the seasons. For Foote, work never ceases. It just rolls on.

Yet his love for what he does is obvious, and what he records is a critical part of our national historical narrative.

A DREAM GIG

Yes, he answers, following and meeting famous dignitaries, heads of state, and government leaders who visit Australia is exciting, but that is not what is best about the job.

“It is the variety of work, together with the accompanying challenges, that I like the best,” he explains.

Some days can be long, verging on twenty hours.
