ASA SCANDALOUS AFFAIR A DREAM COMES TRUE

When we choose the cross of a particular stallion on a special mare, we imagine and dream of the result. But because all breeding is a genetic roll of the dice, the dream and the reality rarely resemble one another. And while the foal may be wonderful, it may be completely different than what we had envisioned. I remember Sheila Varian saying that she didn’t have a preconceived notion when she bred two individuals. She simply went with what she got. And of course, her experience allowed her to recognize when she had produced something special.

Jim Blevins and Kim Butler of Alistar Arabians in South Chesterfield, Virginia, purchased Sweet Saphire V (Desperado V x Sweet Shalimar V), Sundance Kid V’s full sister, from Frank Chisholm of Palmetto Arabians, and bred her to Always A Jullyen V. While she has only produced one live foal for them, that one foal is the proverbial home run.
