2019 WAHO Conference australia and the Arabian Farm Tours
“To know where you are going, you must know from where you come. Knowing something about the history of WAHO gives us a good foundation on which to move forward and into the future.” So said WAHO President Peter Pond at this year’s WAHO Conference, held in the small coastal town of Terrigal, north of Sydney, hosted by the Arab Horse Society of Australia (AHSA). This is the third time Australia has hosted the Conference since 1984. WAHO’s history goes much further back.
WAHO began in 1967, when the Arab Horse Society of Great Britain hosted the first ever conference of international Arabian horse societies, attended by nine nations. In August 1970, the AHS hosted a second conference, attended by representatives from 14 countries including the United States of America (AHRA and IAHA). This was the birth of WAHO, as the main achievement of this meeting was the creation and naming of the World Arabian Horse Organization. A steering committee was installed that worked on the constitution, the bylaws, objectives and purposes of the organization.
