ON Valentine’s Day (or, indeed, any other day), there’s nothing that says ‘I love you’ quite like a rose. And if you prefer to avoid cut roses flown in from thousands of miles away that – in uncomfortable symbolism – will soon drop their petals and die, you should consider a rose plant instead. There’s still time to plant bare-root roses – dug from the nursery, they represent the best value – but you’ll need to do so soon.
