Glyndebourne

A visit to the opera at Glyndebourne is, for some, an unmissable highlight of the English summertime. Founded in 1934 by John Christie and his soprano wife Audrey Mildmay, its summer festival and autumn tour operas attract 150,000 people every year.

Running from May to August, the Glyndebourne Festival offers six operas in the 1,200-seat auditorium in Lewes, East Sussex. Being staged this year are Il Barbiere di Siviglia , La Damnation de Faust , Cendrillon , Rusalka, Die Zauberflöte and Rinaldo . The interval lasts for 90 minutes, giving audience members plenty of time to enjoy the lovely gardens and views of the rolling hills of the South Downs during a picnic and a glass of bubbly, or a spot of dinner at one of the on-site restaurants.
