N 1990 BRITAIN WAS ON THE VERGE of political and economic change. Margaret Thatcher was in her final months of office, on a downward spiral to resignation, and following the boom years of the mid to late ’80s, the Yuppie bubble was set to burst and pull the nation into recession. Property prices had peaked and began to slump, meaning forgotten old wrecks could be bought at bargain prices.
