Grocery Getter

After WWII, a group of hardworking Italian-Americans founded a one-room grocery store in Prescott, Arizona. During the postwar boom this little enterprise, The Hassayampa Market, prospered, expanded, and became a local institution until it closed in 1979.

If you were hosting a dinner party, for instance, the family-owned store would gladly cater a complete custom menu, beverages included. In the days before bank cards, you could buy your groceries from the market on credit. If hauling home your own goods wasn’t possible, no problem; you could have groceries delivered.
