We’re living the GOOD LIFE

‘Our harvest means we’re pretty much self-sufficient most of the year’

DENNY SENNER from Brockley, south London, has been growing fruit and veg on her allotment in Bellingham for 10 years.

You’ll find my husband Steve and me at our allotment every weekend – we have a plot each at opposite ends of the site – and a shared shed where we have Sunday breakfast, with a sofa for our dog Winnie.

I’ve transformed my plot from a wilderness of hawthorn into an allotment filled with fruit, veg and flowers. I’m a gardener and I love the whole process of growing things. Having an allotment might seem like a bit of a busman’s holiday but being a vegetarian, I wanted to grow my own organic veg.

‘My allotment is a therapeutic, lovely place to be’

I started by improving the soil with lots of organic compost and creating raised beds to make weeding easier.
