IN PLAIN SITE, Miami's UNHIDDEN TREAURES
Miami is Manhattan on fire. A tropical metropolis that continues to reinvent herself, pushing the limits of architecture, design, art and cuisine. And while the chaotic beauty of this bustling city is tempting, sometimes one needs a break from it all. Alas, hidden in plain sight lies the sister properties of The Palms Hotel & Spa and Circa 39 in Miami Beach - close enough to all the action, yet tucked away in luxurious privacy.
I begin my journey at The Palms where 1939 meets 2019. Originally built 80 years ago, its shell is art deco while inside every touch has been remastered for the 21st century. The lobby is a stunning refuge from the heat outside, where coral and flowers adorn the walls - a nod to the hotel’s continuing green mission of sustainability. After checking in and checking out my ultra-modern oceanfront room I venture outside to the explore the grounds.
The first thought that comes to mind is: I’m not in Miami anymore. While other hip hotels in South Beach utilize every square inch to maximize profits, here there are rolling lawns, lush gardens and even a poolside beach. Elephant ears and bamboo shoot towards the sky, tricking me into believing I’ve entered French Polynesia. Not to mention the two parrots welcoming me to their home, Sunshine and Chance, the mascots of the resort.
I take note of the massive tiki hut bar, sure to return there shortly, and stroll past the palm-thatched roofs of cabanas surrounding the aqua pool. Further
