“What if no one likes it?” When it came time for album number two, these Berlin-based beat-makers mulled that question over for a nanosecond. “Forget it.” They knew they were right to flip it on you. Time would prove them right.
It would have been easy to return to the tried and tested format of their sample-heavy debut, In Between. But, always rising to a challenge, they ramped up the stakes this time around.
Before, they were a couple of hip-hop heads with some wax and an Akai sampler. Now, they went mad, drafting 60 plus musicians into the mix, including a full orchestra. Not a time to do things by halves…
“Challenging ourselves and shocking people was a big thing for us,” says the group’s Axel Reinemer. “We knew we wanted to do this album in a different style, mixing up our influences and the things we loved at that time. We knew what we wanted to hear, and didn’t care if people were ready for it or not.”
