Josh Butler Right Time

Prolific tech house producer Josh Butler has collaborated with some of the biggest names in house music and released records on labels like Green Velvet’s Cajual and Chase & Status’ More Than Alot Records.

We met him in his home town of Warrington to find out how he created the soulful roller Right Time, and learn more about his eclectic musical passions.

You’ve said you weren’t sure if Right Time was a go-er or not. How do you decide if a track is worthy of release?

“There’s no easy answer of music as I’m sure most producers do. Say I make ten tracks, maybe two are good enough to actually play or get released. With I knew there was a good idea in there because I love the vocal and I thought there was something to be had, but I don’t know, for some reason it just didn’t click with me at first. However then I sent it to a few friends, PAWSA being one of them, and he absolutely loved it. I think that gave me a bit of a confidence boost and pushed me to play it in sets more as well. Eventually I started to see it getting a reaction. It’s a funny one with your own work.”
