Longevity isn’t a given in any walk of life, but it is most certainly a rare bird in the world of dance music. In Vitro is the sublime new compilation of Mark Stewart’s Detroit-leaning techno and electronica journeys, from the embryonic beats and pulses he released on cult label Ai Records way back in 2002, through the glorious Warehouse Sessions series of 12” cuts, the Peace of Mind EP and many choice tracks for Manchester’s Modern Love label. They give you a sense of why Mark Stewart, now happily homed with Delsin Records, is held in such high regard in the techno music fraternity.
In Vitro is testament to an innovative talent, and opens a window into the rich and varied canon of Stewart’s brand of techno. It would be remiss of FM not to mark the release of such a wonderful collection by speaking to the man behind Claro Intelecto, to find out which machines have made him tick over the years.
Was compiling In Vitro a chance to see how your Claro Intelecto work has evolved over the years?
“Maybe… I think that I’ve always worked on different styles from the beginning, only people see periods of specific genres, as that’s what those labels chose to put out at the time.
