Winter is often seen as a time to be in the home, with the weather outside characterised by driving rain, freezing temperatures and murky gloom. These long months of wet and cold have a big impact on the garden, from wind damage, frost and biting chills to standing water and heavy soils. It’s a season that seems to undo all our spring and summer efforts.
Most plants that die over winter do so from having their ‘feet’ wet for long periods of time. Cold spells do cause some plants to die back but the wet weather is often the real challenge, for a number of reasons.
