In a wholly unexpected move, legendary high-end British mixing console manufacturers and software developers SSL have released a pair of audio interfaces aimed squarely at the affordable end of the home studio market, and trumpeted rather hyperbolically as “more than just an audio interface… the centre of your new Solid State Logic studio”.

The SSL 2 is a 24-bit/192kHz USB bus-powered unit, boasting two SSLdesigned mic preamps (on Neutrik connectors) that, it’s said, boast “unrivalled noise performance and gain range for a USB-powered device” – specifically, -130.5dB EIN for the former and 62dB for the latter.
