LATE HARVEST

6 TASTED

The two wines reviewed here showed complexity and freshness of fruit with balanced acid to sugar. Those that did not make the grade were either stale or had a lack of fruit intensity.

The judged were disappointed overall with this group. Some poor winemaking obvious here with excessive pressings bitterness, stale fruit and either unbalanced sweetness or, with the imports, surprisingly, excessive acidity. A couple worth trying.

Alkoomi Cordon Cut Frankland River Sticky Semillon 2017 (375ml) ★★★★½

Fresh fruit salad fragrances with tropical notes. Luscious palate; sweet and complex tasting of butterscotch and honeyed fruit with nicely balancing acidity. $20

Domaine Tariquet Dernières Grives IGP Côtes de Gascogne Petit Manseng 2016 ★★★

Deep golden wine with nutty caramel nose and powerful orange characters on the ageing palate.
