CRAFERS IN NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT

ONE of the most popular gourmet destinations in the Adelaide Hills is the Crafers Hotel, which was recognised as the best overall hotel in South Australia at the 2018 AHA|SA Hotel Industry Awards for Excellence. It then went on to take national honours at the AHA awards on the Gold Coast.

New owners Ed and Julie Peter, who also operate the near-by Uraidla Hotel, purchased what was then a rundown hotel in 2014. Today, the Crafers Hotel has been transformed into a French-inspired and stylish gastropub. The menu boasts a strong focus on local produce, from Smoky Bay oysters, local mussels and locally caught squid.

The menu features dishes like snails in garlic and parsley butter with baguette and mussels in a speck and cider cream broth. Not surprising given chef Stephane Brizard is French born and bred. The wine list, with experienced sommelier Jonathan Brook in charge, includes labels from both local growers and well-known Old-World names such as Petrus, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite and a wide collection of burgundys.
