Hailing from Auburn, Indiana, Worldwide Auctioneers returned to California’s Gold Coast for its third-annual Pacific Grove sale on Thursday, August 15. In what has quickly become tradition, the company organized a friendly one-night affair at the idyllic Pacific Grove Golf Links that overlooks the north shore of the Monterey Peninsula, which was preceded by two days of preview hours for early arriving bidders and spectators alike.

Unlike some other sales during Car Week, Worldwide’s catalog was carefully curated, consisting of 37 lots that spanned the breadth of the industry. Brass beauties, Full Classics, grand tourers, and performance cars from both sides of the pond were present, including what was arguably the star of the auction: an all-original 1898 Riker Electric Stanhope that touted an incredible historical record. For those who prefer more contemporary elegance, a 1931 Cadillac Series 370A Fleetwood brought $297,000, which was followed by two icons from Europe: a 1958 Porsche 356A/1600 Speedster for $264,000, and a 1965 Jaguar “Series 1” E-type that achieved $242,000. Landing in fifth place overall was an American performance standout: a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona — with a 440/four-speed powertrain combination — that brought $203,500. In fact, each of the top 10 broke through the six-figure barrier, including the 1967 Oldsmobile Toronado, modified by Barris Kustom for season one of

Mannix, that realized $101,200. After the last gavel fell, Worldwide recorded a total take of $2.95 million.

As of this writing, Worldwide Auctioneers has since hosted its annual Auburn sale in its hometown, with a stop in Corpus Christi, Texas, next on the.
