1 We’ve had a Paul’s Guitar before, haven’t we?
Yes, the first official ‘signature’ guitar of Paul Reed Smith surfaced in 2013. The new version, like an increasing number of new PRS guitars, appeared as a 100-piece limited-run Private Stock model in 2018 and joined the core range as an unlimited model at the start of 2019.
2 What’s changed?
Aside from a few cosmetic alterations, the major differences concern the pickups and the onboard passive control circuit. The core model introduces the new TCI pickups, although they look identical to the narrow 408-style humbuckers of the previous Paul’s Guitar.
3 And the SE version?
This is made in Indonesia in a new PRS-exclusive factory. It introduces a new top-carve and TCI ‘S’ pickups (designed by PRS but made in Indonesia) with a similar circuit to the core model. It also uses the same Private Stock bridge that we see on the core model. Oh, by the way: it’ll cost you almost 80 per cent less than the USA core model. Interested?
