A SAILING ENTENTE CORDIALE

he Classic Channel Regatta is a brilliant carnival celebration of classic boat racing: pretty boats, great sailing, great racing, great fun. Events are held in Brittany, the south coast of England and the Channel, and, of the 80 entrants this year, more than a quarter came from France, adding spice both on and off the water. The racing was varied: round the cans in Start Bay, round the, a Contessa 32; the party was won by the French. At supper in the Old Market Square we were entertained by sea shanties, with most crews joining in, and then by a jazz band with dancing.
