CHRISTMAS GNOMES

Intermediate crochet

Measurements Approx 17 x 4.5cm or 14 x 4cm

NOTE Quantities listed will make several gnomes.

Gather your supplies

Large gnomes

DMC Soft Cotton Tapestry Thread (50g): 1 ball each Shade 042 and 043 for body, and 1 ball 03 for head and hands, 1 skein each 2594 and 2595 for scarves; 3.5mm crochet hook

Small gnomes

DMC Natura Just Cotton (50g): 1 ball each Green Valley Shade N14, Passion Shade N23, Curry Shade N74 for body, Acanthe Shade N81 for head and hands; DMC Soft Cotton Tapestry Thread (10m skeins): 3 skeins each Shade 2574, 2572 and 2108 for body, and 1 skein each 2594 and 2595 for scarves; 2.5mm crochet hook

You’ll also need

Flat bottom marbles; hobbyfill; small bells 10-20mm; length of black stranded cotton for eyes; yarn needle

Here’s how

Tension: Correct tension not essential.

Hat (beg at top point)

Using appropriate hook and hat colour, make 2ch leaving a long end.

1st round: Miss first ch, working over long end 4dc in 2nd ch, do not join … 4dc.

NOTE Unless otherwise indicated, when working pieces mark end of rounds with a contrasting thread or safety pin, as rounds are not completed with a sl st but worked in a spiral shape. To reduce centre hole, pull firmly on long end after working a few rounds or before filling.

2nd and foll alt rounds: 1dc in each dc to end.

3rd round: (2dc in next dc, 1dc in next dc) twice … 6dc.

5th round: (2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc) twice … 8dc.

7th round: (2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc) twice … 10dc.

9th round: (2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc) twice … 12dc.

11th round: (2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc) 3 times … 15dc.

13th round: (2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc) 3 times … 18dc.
