Since I updated my iMac to Mojave I get the spinning beachball of doom regularly – how can I stop this? Annie Stephenson

1 Open monitor

Launch the Activity Monitor app (use Spotlight to locate it quickly), make sure the ‘CPU’ tab is displayed and then leave it idle for a couple of minutes to assess the state of play.

2 Monitor apps

Activity Monitor will track how much of an impact the apps that you’re currently running are having on your Mac’s system resources. Click on ‘Memory’ tab to see how much your apps use.

3 Quit apps

If an app is causing a significant drain, highlight it in the list and then click on the ‘X’ button in the top-left corner to close the app. Also close any unneeded Safari tabs.
