ENGINE

There were three critical components of the A12 package for eager gear-heads, one of which was the revised 440-cu.in. engine. Unlike the previous 375-horse edition, those destined for the A12 were fitted with an aluminum Edelbrock intake mounting triple Holley two-barrel carburetors for a combined advertised induction rate of 1,350 cfm. Announced with a 10.1:1 compression ratio, as well as an assortment of other performance-inducing parts within the block, the Chrysler RB engine was announced with an official rating of 390 hp and 490 lb-ft of torque.

TRANSMISSION & AXLES

Next on the hot shoe happy list was the A12’s inclusion of a floor-shifted, four-speed manual as standard equipment—no three-speed manual was available. This was the same A-833 unit fitted against the 426 Hemi, including a Hurst shifter and linkage, which could have been surrounded by an optional console.
