“Y long way, baby.” Fifty years ago, that classic advertising slogan from the Leo Burnett Agency caught fire with Philip Morris’s ad campaign for Virginia Slims, pitched as the first cigarette brand specifically marketed to women. It captured the feminist zeitgeist for liberated women, throwing off the repression of politesse, discrimination, sexism and inequality.
