In the 1980s, TV shows like Family Ties and Full House celebrated family values. The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie were in constant rerun rotation, portraying an American culture championing close, supportive families.
It was an era when Tipper Gore worked to ensure that families were not exposed to raunchy and vulgar lyrics on records; her advocacy group, the PMRC, prompted music labels to put “Parental Advisory” stickers on offending albums.
