“AN EXPLOSION OF JOY”

How do you reflect on that incredible Champions League experience now?

It was a fantastic experience for all of us. We overcame a lot of obstacles to reach the final. It’s a shame that we couldn’t go all the way, and it does have a bitter taste to think that we were capable of winning the trophy. We didn’t play our best in the final but I’m proud of our campaign, a run full of emotions intense feelings, that’s for sure. For me personally, the whole journey was magical, especially because of that semi-final hat-trick in Amsterdam. What I lived that night, all those emotions will last in my heart forever.

You had only one point after three group games against Inter, Barcelona and PSV. Was there a point when you thought you were going out of the tournament early?

No. You can’t think such a thing when there’s still a chance. It’s forbidden to give up when things are not finished. Football proves it every now and again. That’s why football is such a great sport. We went into every game thinking about getting the three points. Then you see at the end what happens
