The windmills of Patmos

Cruising from Kos to the northen Aegean island of Patmos was an armchair sail in the Austrian-built sloop, SV Aladin. With a calm sea and winds on the port quarter at 8-10 knots, we hugged the Turkish coast and on arrival moored on an empty pontoon near the beach. It was here at the Bay of Grikos where John the Apostle baptised converts and received his revelation in the Cave of the Apocalypse. He wrote the Book of Revelations at nearby Skala in AD96.

Grikos Bay is protected and beautiful, but we weren’t here just to sample the authentic character and cuisine at the Greek taverna. The island is
