RACING UNDER THE SUN
While there is no doubt that the best way to learn how to race is to take part, it is not always that easy to find opportunities. Heading to your local sailing club and teaming up with a helmsman as a regular crew to gain experience is one option but this method can be unreliable and, in some circumstances, off-putting. Here ideally you need to find a competent racing sailor to team up with, one who has plenty of patience, and who is happy to pass on their vast racing knowledge while competing.
To ensure you get the best possible start with the least fuss, a more congenial way for many people is to sign up for a course place on a charter yacht at a regatta, or at beach club holiday regatta where you can learn the basics from the instructors.
