    Waiting for a first senior title since 1993, even winning this Copa could create something of a problem for Argentina, who have opted to spend the entire year under a caretaker coach.

    Much of the explanation for this is financial. After the fiasco of Russia 2018, the decision was taken to fire Jorge Sampaoli, who was on a fat, long-term contract, and paying him off left a hole in the coffers – especially at a time when Lionel Messi was taking a break from international football, thus reducing the fee they could charge for friendlies.
