DUTCH REVIVAL
Designed by a renowned naval architect, and built by a boatyard with an equally illustrious name, this attractive, understated and technically advanced 49-foot motor cruiser has the pedigree of an elegant thoroughbred.
She was launched in Aalsmeer, Holland, in 1939, with powerful engines, a slender and efficient hull form and an impressive turn of speed for the time. Now, as a total rebuild by a dedicated young team of specialists nears completion, she looks set for a new life of turning heads and drawing admiring glances. Her name is Zephyr, and her proud and patient owner is Jeroen van der Toorn.
“I learned to sail on the lakes with my father,” says the 50-year-old real estate entrepreneur. “We have a 16-metre sailboat, which we keep in Croatia. But in Holland we also have a small motor launch, a sloep, for the canals.”
