1 BATMAN’S SUPERYACHT
Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli has built his very own batboat. Unimpressed with off-the-shelf designs from production builders, the fashion guru asked superyacht designer Tommaso Spadolini to create ‘a boat that Batman would drive’.
The result is every bit as dramatic as one of Cavalli’s own catwalk creations. Powered by triple 1900hp MAN engines linked to Rolls-Royce KaMeWa waterjets, the 28m superyacht, named Freedom, is capable of an impressive 40 knots.
However, it’s the flamboyant styling and dark colouring as much as the performance that would appeal to the caped crusader. A swooping hard top that plunges all the way back to the transom gives it a side profile as dramatic as any Batmobile.
Unlike Cavalli’s other boat, a 41m Baglietto, which is predominantly used for corporate entertainment, Freedom is for his own personal use. That meant limiting it to a waterline length of less than 24m so that he can drive it himself.
The layout is just as unconventional as the styling with the owner’s suite on the same raised level as the pilothouse so that it enjoys the best possible sea views, good natural ventilation and private access to a small sundeck lounge. A short staircase also
