Stevenson has written extensively on World War I, including a). In that book he focused his attention on the stunning turnaround in the fortunes of the Allied powers, who were facing a devastating defeat at the beginning of 1918. In this book, which could be considered a prequel, he looks at how they got into such a mess in the first place.
