last spoke to Miguel Angel Jimenez four years ago not long after his 50th birthday. Although he had played a handful of events on the Champions Tour in America – and naturally won a couple of them – he was still then very much a European Tour player, despite passing the age at which anyone with the kind of record he has enjoyed would perhaps be looking to clean up among the senior ranks.
The problem for Miguel was that he was still just too darned competitive among the youngsters! In May 2014 he had become the oldest ever player to win a European Tour event when he claimed his national Open at the age of 50 years and 133 days –
