remember jumping up and down with jubilant excitement at having spotted a red-bellied woodpecker at Hoisington Brook, in Westport, during the Ferrisburgh Christmas Bird Count and no sooner recovering somewhat from the excitement than hearing a Carolina wren holding forth at high volume 50 yards from where we stood.
