Like buses, you wait an age for a new record from ‘Little’ Steven Van Zandt’s Disciples Of Soul, and then two come along within a couple of years. The Disciples’ comeback album, 2017’s Soulfire, was made up of covers and new versions of songs that Van Zandt had written for other artists. Relatively hot on its heels, the imminent Summer Of Sorcery is his first collection of original songs since Born Again Savage way back in 1999. And very good it is too, bristling with an effervescent rock-soul sound and as invigorating as the season it seeks to evoke.
