The Imperial War Museum has been donated a piece of a US Navy battleship that was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor
On the morning of 7 December 1941, Japanese aircraft attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor on Oahu, Hawaii. Their intention was to destroy as much of the US Pacific Fleet as possible before it could respond to Japanese operations against British, Dutch and American territories in southeast Asia.
