Is there a more satisfying moment in a bike restoration project than when all the various components return from the paint shop and platers?
It was the turning point in my rebuild of the 1996 Triumph 1200 Trophy, in which transforming a huge heavyweight tourer into a lithe custom roadster using a kit of parts from Café Racer Kits (CRK), rather like the demonstrator I’d ridden in the Isle of Wight two years ago.
Initially, as detailed in earlier parts of this series, I’d been mailed parts such as a new classic-styled rear sub-frame and various sub-components like the foot-rest mounts, electrical assemblies and restyled instrument consoles, and after having the touring kit removed by Richard at JB Motorcycles for selling on eBay and the rear-end of the frame cut off, I started a dry build.
