CLASS 20
TYPE 1 No. 20189 had a run out on October 12 when ‘tailing’ the 1Z71/08.27 Dorridge-Chester Vintage Trains charter, which was hauled by steam locomotive No. 7029 Clun Castle and routed via Stafford and Crewe on the outward leg and back via Wrexham, Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.
Earlier in the month, on October 2, another privately-owned Type 1 No. 20227 ‘top and tailed’ Class 4 2-6-0 No. 76084 on a ‘fish and chip’ special running on the national network between Sheringham and Cromer. After passing Frodsham Junction at 12.52, 6Z21 took the low-level line to pass beneath Warrington Bank Quay station.
Nos. 20311 and 20314 commenced the railhead treatment programme in Yorkshire at the beginning of October and worked together until the final leg (the 3S15/19.42 Bridlington-York Works) on October 9. Next day, the DRS pairing of Nos. 20302 and 20303 took out the 3S11/04.15 York Works-Sheffield, yet No. 20314 accompanied No. 20302 between October 17 and 23, allowing No. 20303 to rejoin its stable companion the following day.
