HS2 supporters push capacity and economic benefits as fears over cancellation increase

SUPPORTERS of the High Speed 2 (HS2) project have been on the defensive in recent weeks as fears grow the eastern leg serving the East Midlands and Yorkshire and the costly Old Oak Common to Euston section could be scrapped to reduce costs.
Politicians, business leaders and regional transport organisations have stepped up their efforts to promote the wider benefits of the new railway, now costed at up to £88billion, as the Oakervee Review (RM Oct) prepares to deliver its findings to the Government this month.
