Little Switzerland by the sea... but not quite

One of the most outstanding stations on a British narrow gauge railway is one that copied a distinctive alpine design.

Three miles to the west of Lynton on the North Devon coast, those who take the trouble to stop on the winding unclassified coast road and clamber down will find little Woody Bay, a stony-beached cove between the steep cliffs on the northern edge of the Exmoor National Park.

Woody Bay – the beach – is probably as remote as you can get on this part of the shore, rock climbing apart.
