TECH: WINTERISATION WINTER IS COMING!

There’s no doubt that the British winter can be tough on old cars. If it was just a steady blanket of snow, it wouldn’t be so bad, but the mixture of rapid changes in temperature, damp air, black ice and of course salt can be extremely harmful. We use salt on the roads because when the salt dissolves it lowers the freezing point of water, keeping it liquid rather than ice or snow. Sadly, it also acts as a very efficient electrolyte for promoting the corrosion of exposed steel.

So what do you do? Bung a tarpaulin over the car, or park it in the garage and forget about it till Easter? Not a good idea. Storing a car carelessly through winter can be just as damaging as using it every day without taking sensible precautions. We’re going to look at the right way to protect your pride and joy, whether you’re motivating or hibernating.
