ENGINE OVERHEATED

We left home for yet another visit to Kruger, on 1 September, from Amanzimtoti.

Alas, it wasn’t to be. Outside of Hluhluwe, Zululand, our Hyundai Tucson overheated. We drove slowly to Bush Baby campsite, Hluhluwe, where we had camped many times previously to assess the damage. By then a fair amount of liquid was leaking out.

Pim, the owner, advised us of the only mechanic in town, but as it was Sunday, we had to wait until Monday.

With a sinking feeling, we heard that the cylinder head gasket had blown, and could take the whole week or longer to be repaired.

But every cloud has a silver lining, or so 'they' say, and on Sunday we settled down and spent two very pleasant nights at Bush Baby, where the bird life is prolific. Our grandson and son-in-law, arrived after lunch on Tuesday and drove us home.

We are still waiting to hear when we can pick up the Tucson – and how much it will cost. San Parks allowed us to change our booking to next year at no extra cost. All-in-all we missed out on our holiday, but it could have been
