Siviwe was on the country's radar in June 2019, when he hitchhiked to the Knysna Marathon from Mfuleni, and went on to win the race in 2h33min. His Facebook post asking for a ride (after his borrowed car wouldn't start) went viral.

He grew up in the village of Idutywa in the Eastern Cape, and currently lives in Mfuleni.

Siviwe is known as the Lion King, and has the personal motto “Win or lose, no fear, eat or you’ll be eaten.”
