Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II £339/$399
Canon makes several compact cameras with a one-inch sensor, the G9 X Mark II being the smallest. At 98 x 58 x 31mm and 206g, it’s also smaller and lighter than the other cameras on test, despite its relatively large sensor. There are compromises to be made, however. The small rear panel is dominated by the three-inch screen, so physical buttons are few and they don’t include a typical four-way navigation dial. Scrolling through menus and image folders is therefore heavily reliant on the touchscreen, which is thankfully responsive, and its 1.04-million-dot resolution helps produce excellent preview quality. The latter is particularly important, as the pared-down dimensions also mean you don’t get an electronic viewfinder.
