Sprung suspension for the Bachmann Class 37
TIME is something that must be devoted to a sprung suspension project for it to be a success – in the first stage of this project, bogie subframes and bogie bolsters alongside the fabrication of the all-important bearing carriers took considerably more time than one might expect.
A point where all of the components come together with the modified Class 37 bogie frames with their articulation units will soon materialise. But not quite yet, because another etch called for attention – one with some very fine components indeed and it challenged the author’s soldering skills once again.
Several important points arise from the building of the bogie subframes. Neglecting to drill out holes in the frames after soldering or to check their diameter prior to folding will make putting the brake detail together and fitting it to the subframe an awkward task. Note was taken at every point where the instructions advised checking etched hole diameters with the appropriate drill bit, usually a 0.35mm one. Using the blind end of a drill to check alignment of the holes when
