Top Tips for SUMMER WATERING

Water is a precious resource in any garden, but can be even harder to come by on an allotment. Not all allow hoses, so summer can mean weeks of carrying watering cans to keep precious crops alive. Plants under cover rely on you, even if it is pouring down outside. So what can you do to save your back, while ensuring that your crops get all they need to give you heavy harvests of tasty produce?

EFFICIENT WATERING

CHOOSE YOUR TARGET

When demand for water is high it is as well to concentrate on those that need it most. Established long-term plants with deep roots such as most brassicas, leeks and root crops can survive a short dry spell much better than those that are recently planted, so it makes sense to focus your efforts on fresh plantings and plants which may be producing fruits such as tomatoes, squashes, strawberries and beans.
