TWO MOMS AND A MELKTERT

Portugal has never been on my bucket list of places to visit. Not that I have anything against the country, its food or its people; it’s just never been more attractive to me than, say, Spain or France. Or Vietnam, Sri Lanka or Japan. (Yes, I have a rather long list.)

But when I had the opportunity to escape real life for a few days, for the first time in far too long (read: time, budget and obliging partner), I discovered I wasn’t that picky about the destination. And that a place I had never before dreamed of visiting would in fact turn out to be the best one yet.

The chance to pretend I was a carefree, childless world traveller arose when my career break overlapped with my friend Hanlie’s long overdue 40th birthday trip.
