BRAZIL’S CHEVY SUBURBAN

Ever heard of the Chevrolet Veraneio? Nope, me neither, yet such vehicles would be instantly familiar to Brazilians. Produced from 1964 to 1994, this was Chevy’s locally manufactured Suburban equivalent, an early SUV and virtually the only such multi-purpose people-carrier available in Brazil for many years. Popular as both police cars and ambulances and available as nine-seater mini-buses, the Veraneio presumably used old GM tooling, made obsolete by constant sales-encouraging US styling changes.
