31 CLASS 306 electric multiple unit No. 081 ran on Liverpool Street services with different yellow warning panel designs for a while during BR trials in the early-1960s. One was an experimental vertical yellow strip down the middle of the cab-front. COLOUR-RAIL.
32 BRITISH Rail considered selling Type 4 prototype diesel-electric No. D0280 back to its manufacturer, Brush, in 1974. The negotiations weren't successful, but the message apparently didn't get through to the operations department and the Co-Co was duly hauled from South Wales all the way to Brush's Loughborough works. Adding a touch of comedy to the intrigue was the fact Brush's rail connection had been lifted two years previously so the was returned to the Western Region and reinstated to traffic, not being withdrawn until late-1975 .
