CLASS 90 No. 90029 was observed at Leeds at the head of the 07.33 service to King’s Cross on Janury 21.

OBSERVATIONS on January 17 at Bristol Temple Meads found the 09.30 service to Paddington leaving 23 minutes late because of the failure of the rear five-car unit on arrival at Bristol. This meant the failed unit had to leave for Stoke Gifford first before the remaining five-car unit could depart for London. The five-car unit was further delayed at Swindon, leaving 40 minutes late, with final arrival at Paddington 32 minutes late. The train also delayed the following Paignton to Paddington, which arrived 23 minutes late into London.

TWO new units have been delivered from Dollands Moor to North Pole, with No. 802108 being hauled north on January 18 by GBRf Class 66 No. 66713, followed on February 4 when No. 66771 moved No. 802109 to North Pole.

GWR’s prototype ‘Sprinter’ No. 150002 worked the 12.30 Cardiff-Portsmouth Harbour service on January 21, having earlier arrived on the 08.23 ex-Portsmouth Harbour service. The day’s diagrams meant it would cover more than 600 miles that day, visiting Cardiff twice and Portsmouth three times, finishing there at night, having started from Westbury in the morning. Not bad for a 34-year-old prototype!  THE railway connection to Slough Trading Estate was severed in 1973, but the upside sidings near the BOC plant sees a number of track units these days. NR Tamper No. 73406 was one of three stabled there on the afternoon of January 2.

NEW Class 755 No. 755407 was moved from Crown Point to Coldhams Lane (Cambridge) by English Electric Type 3 No. 37800 on January 20. It entered the shed under its own power, having been dragged to Coldhams Lane reception sidings.

FORMER GWR HST power cars Nos. 43031 and 43152 were observed in Wabtec Doncaster on January 17 re-liveried in ScotRail InterCity ready to move north. CLASS 170 No. 170429 worked the 5Z70/17.06 Haymarket depot-Brodies Kilmarnock on  Saturday, January 19.

SERIOUS disruption occurred to services operating into/out of Edinburgh Waverley from the west on Tuesday, January 22, following the failure of Class 334 No. 334015 while working the 2M38/05.37 Hyndland to Edinburgh.

The driver reported total loss of power and the unit was declared a failure, blocking platform 3 at Haymarket, meaning no services could reach the station from the Carstairs/Shotts routes.

Services from Glasgow Queen Street were delayed while re-routed via platform 1 at Haymarket.

The 1V52/06.01 Glasgow Central-Plymouth eventually arrived at Haymarket 70 minutes late.

DELIVERIES of new Class 385 units from Newton Aycliffe to Craigentinny, all hauled by Class 67 No. 67004, found No. 385018 moved north on January 25; No. 385017, February 17; No. 385022, February 7; and No. 385020, February 8.

In addition, Nos. 385045+ 385046 were hauled north from Ashford to Newton Aycliffe on January 31-February 1 by Class 67 No. 67002.
